Gym Anxiety
Gym anxiety is most certainly a real thing. And I imagine with gyms heaving this month, it feels even worse. Please don't walk out and never go back. There are things you can do to make the experience so much nicer for yourself. So here are my fool proof tips to keep you going back...
šš»āāļø Get a plan at the ready, make sure you understand everything on that plan before you go. This will stop you aimlessly walking around feeling silly (even though you don't look it).
šš»āāļø Headphones! Block out the noise of other people's conversations and grunting, it's so distracting and can make you feel self conscious. Putting your favourite playlist on will also help take your mind off your anxiety and make you feel better.
šš»āāļø If someone is using what you need, either move onto the next exercise and come back to it or do a dumbbell alternative.
šš»āāļø If you get stuck, ask a member of staff it is what they're there for and should be happy to help you.
šš»āāļø Smile, chances are there are other people feeling like you and a friendly face might be just the encouragement they need.Ā
šš»āāļø Keep going, I know it's hard but the more you go the more you will feel comfortable. We need discomfort in our lives, powerful things happen when we move away from safety.
Remember, no-one has more of a right to be there than you. No-one has more of a right to use that squat rack than you. Take your time, take some breaths and go smash it you won't regret it.
