Gym Myths
There are so many health and fitness platforms out there now which is great if it helps people. The only problem though is sometimes the information can be contradictory and if you're new to this how are you supposed to know what's fact and what's fiction? Let's clear a few things up for you...
⚡️Carbs make you fat - this is a popular one and I spent many years eating a low carb diet thinking that was the answer. Fortunately carbs don't make you fat, too much food consistently consumed over a number of weeks will make you fat.
⚡️You're only making progress when you're aching - I hear this quite a lot and when you initially start training or begin a new programme you will more than likely suffer from doms (delayed onset muscle soreness). However a couple of weeks in you won't and that doesn't mean the workout has lost its affect, your muscles have just adapted to the new movement.
⚡️More protein will make you look like Arnie - not gonna happen. Protein is vital for your health, fills you for longer and yes helps build muscle but trust me Arnie is safe.
⚡️Don't eat too much fruit because of the sugar - it's not the fruit that's causing the weight gain hence why we hear all the time '5 fruits and veg a day'.
⚡️Fasted cardio is best for fat loss - when we wake in the morning our insulin levels are low which means yes if we were to do cardio then it would oxidise more fat. However, it also uses our muscle tissue as a fuel source more so than any other period in the day. We spend a lot of time trying to build that muscle tissue the last thing you want to do is gamble with it trying to do fasted cardio!
⚡️An hour+ in the gym is needed to have a decent workout - this is something I used to think too and it just isn't true. Whatever time you give yourself, trust me you can get what you need. If short on time I recommend less rest, high rep, no faffing on your phone!
Hope this helps!
