New Year New Me

New Year New Me

I love this time of year. I am the type of person who loves to set goals, I don't always achieve them like but I love thinking about all the things I want to do better and change.Β

I think what is most important is we realise it doesn't have to be a new year, month or week to start something new or be a better version of ourselves. We literally are in control of our lives and can start anything whenever we want.

If you haven't changed anything yet it really doesn't matter, you haven't in any way failed. You don't have to have massive goals if you don't want, you might be happy exactly as you are which is great. We can sometimes have huge expectations and if you want to start a healthy lifestyle you really don't have to change everything all at once. In fact, I think that's a sure-fire way to fail. This is why the 'new year new me' trend gets so much abuse from trainers, because it just doesn't work like that.Β

What I do recommend is changing 2 things and maintain those for a month. Then when you have those things well practised, start something else or take something out.Β

Things you might want to think about are....

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Starting a weight training programme 2-3 times per week

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Setting yourself a step goal (to do this I would look at the average you do daily at the moment and then add 2-3000 on to that).

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Drinking 2-3litres of water daily

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Including 5 portions of fruit and veg in your diet

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Calorie counting

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Cutting back on alcohol or having a dry January

Again, if you don't normally do any of the above I really wouldn't start by trying to do them all.Β

If you are someone who already leads a healthy lifestyle and trains 3-5 times per week it might be an idea to think about what you want from your training. Do you want to get stronger, leaner, is there a different style of training you would like to try? If this is the case, I recommend writing down what your end goal is and then what you need to do to achieve this. Having a big goal is great but if we don't think about the little things we can do to get there, we'll probably never get there.

If you need help and support I offer online coaching which gives you a plan for food and fitness no matter your goals, you don't have to thinkΒ or stress about any of it.Β
