To train or not to train on holiday?

Some people think I'm nuts to train on holiday and I get it. If you're going away for a few days or a week and you want to relax and enjoy your holiday then that's absolutely fine! All of your hard work will not be undone don't panic!

I don't do it to make massive gains or to progress. There's two reasons why I like it; damage limitation and the feel good factor. (And to have a little time away from the kids! So 3 reasons.)

I wake up with the birds every morning and always have. So I take myself out on to the balcony (I might venture to the gym now I have a boyfriend to watch the kids!) and do a bit of hiit training. All bodyweight obviously, and I time the exercises, usually 30 seconds on 10 seconds off. Nice and simple. Lasting in total, around 20-30 minutes max. The endorphins kick in afterwards AND you're on holiday, you've set yourself up for a bloody good day. 

I also want to go on holiday and eat and drink whatever I want. I know if I do this and don't exercise I'll be fine, a couple of weeks back home eating right I'll be back to normal. However, the bit of exercise helps me mentally to enjoy it all fully without any guilt. 

If training on holiday isn't for you I completely understand and you should never feel guilty for having a rest. You might simply want to go for a couple of nice, long walks and take in the scenery. Or if you're like my mum, go for a run along the beach. (She made me do this once in the Dominican Republic I thought I was gonna die).

If you do want to give something a try, below is my balcony workout I did last year when I took the kids to Ibiza....

30 seconds on, 10 seconds off...

Fast squats

Jump lunges

Burpees

Squat high kick

Press ups

Mountain climbers

High plank, knee to opposite elbow

Pulsing jump squats

Rest 90 seconds, repeat 3/4.

Remember there is no right or wrong, you do what feels right for you. No pressure, no comparing yourself. We all deserve to have a break so whatever that looks like for you, relax and enjoy that precious time with your family. ❤️
