You're a social butterfly but you want to diet?
I'm not going to pretend I'm a social butterfly because I'm not. Far from it. I'm more like a moth, if moth's were attracted to warmth and the sofa. 😭
But on an occasion where I do venture out, there are certain things you can do, so that you don't undo all your hard work come Monday.
So if you're one of these Monday - Friday dieters and then Friday night comes and everything goes out the window then this is for you.
First of all, I'm a trainer who promotes healthy living. The key word here being living. I don't force 6 week diets where you're starving the whole time, it's just not the way I want to live my life and I don't know why anyone would tbh.
So if you have an event coming up but you don't want to take too many steps back with your progress, I would choose to either enjoy some food or have the alcohol. If you choose alcohol, plan your food for the day and get it ready if you can. A lot of people seriously under eat before going out which leads to having a takeaway at the end of the night because you're starving.
If you choose the right drinks, you're not doing too much damage. For example, I would steer clear of ciders, beers and wine and go for a spirit (specifically a clear one) and slim line tonic with lemon or lime. This will reduce the amount of calories consumed and carbs.
The next day is usually where there can be over eating. I struggle with this myself, I crave carbs so much on a hangover 😭 Again get the food ready for the day after. Don't come back to an empty fridge! Have lots of healthy options to choose from, including some good carbs. Keeping busy is a good idea too; plan a walk so you can get your steps in and feel the fresh air, it'll do you good!
If you choose to have a big meal which you know will be calorific, the rest of that day try to keep your other meals smaller. You can also look at the menu before the event so you can work out how many calories you'll be consuming. It also helps to make wiser choices if you did want to stay clean. Make sure you get in your steps and your workouts that week.
Because you know the day of the event calories will be higher, it's a good idea to hold some calories back throughout the week. It doesn't mean you should be starving but 100-150 per day is plenty and will give you a decent cushion for the weekend.
Reigning in your weekend is hard but your progress will come a lot quicker if you can control them a bit. Social events come up and you should 100% go and enjoy them! But it doesn't have to undo everything you've already worked so hard for. Little swaps here and there will make all the difference if you think ahead. It is important to remember it is all about balance.
